A Devon cricketer has been included in the MCC Women’s squad for the upcoming tour of the USA and Canada.

Aylish Cranstone, a batting all-rounder who plays for the University of Exeter, is part of a squad of 15 cricketers that left Lord’s this week ahead of the 10-day trip.

Tourist - Aylish CranstoneEx-England batter Claire Taylor will captain the group, which also includes former England skipper Charlotte Edwards, as well as a number of other players with county experience.

Judy Wilmot, of Somerset Wanderers CC, is player-manager for the tour.

MCC will play seven matches on the tour. Among the fixtures is a T20 match against USA Women on Sunday, September 11 at Merrion Cricket Club, and a 50-over clash against a Canadian Select XI on Thursday, September 15 at Toronto Skating & Curling Club.

This will be the first MCC women’s tour to the USA and Canada.

John Stephenson, MCC Head of Cricket, said: “This is a very special tour for MCC and unique in the sense that we have never sent a women’s squad to the US and Canada before.

“Aylish is one of many talented players within this group, and the involvement of Claire Taylor and Charlotte Edwards shows how important this tour is both to MCC and women’s cricket in the US and Canada.

“I hope this tour will continue to raise the profile of women’s cricket in the States and Canada, and I’m sure all our players will prove to be excellent ambassadors for the Club and the Spirit of Cricket.”
