SCORECARD

GEORGE Allen hit an unbeaten 47 off 33 balls as Torquay defeated North Devon by eight wickets in the second semi-final of the Servicemaster T20 Cup.

Waiting for Torquay in the final at Sidmouth (4.45pm) are Bradninch, who overcame Plymouth in the first semi this morning.

North Devon made 102 for four in a game restricted to 12 overs each due to rain.

Opener Dan Bowser unfurled some big hits in his 25-ball knock of 38, which include three fours and four sixes.

Ed Yeo was next best on 20.

Pick of the bowlers for Torquay were spinners Matt Beasant – three overs for 18 runs – and Matt Petherbridge (3-25).

“Our spinners were game changes – and didn’t Matt Beasant bowl well,” said Torquay skipper Justin Yau.

“In a 12-over game, those are remarkable figures.”

Allen and Mitch Pugh (27) took Torquay to 63 for one on the chase and from then on they were favourites.

Pugh and skipper Justin Yau (10) went in successive overs, but Allen was unmovable and saw it through with Joe Thompson (10no) with an over to spare.

Losing captain Barney Huxtable said his side were 15 runs short of what they needed.

“We didn’t bat as well as we could have in the last couple of overs – and we didn’t play the spinners well,” said Huxtable.

Opposite number Yau said Allen batted fantastically, adding: “We never let our momentum drop at any time in the innings.”
