Big-hitting Haysom lashes unbeaten double ton (again) as Honiton pile up the runs

Dave Haysom poses by the scoreboard after his history making innings

HONITON batsman Dave Haysom joined one of the smallest clubs in Devon League history after blasting a second double hundred.

Double-tons are pretty rare in limited-overs cricket as the games aren’t long enough to get them that easily.

Haysom, 44, already had one in his personal scorebook, a knock of 212 not out clouted for Feniton against Cullompton in a second team game in 2008.

And in last Saturday’s game between Honiton and Bideford II at Mountbatten Park, Haysom lashed another unbeaten double hundred.

Lloyd White, who had one for Budleigh (2010) and another for Ashburton last season, is the only other player to score two double tons.

Haysom hurtled to his double ton in the last over of the Honiton innings when he realised it was now or never.

“I got to 150 with about five overs to go and Adam Holmes, I was batting with was keen to get a 50 himself,” said Haysom.

“After he got out there wasn’t that long left and when we got down to the last over I needed 21 to get to 200.

“Andy Canniford ran himself out first ball to get me back on strike.

“The rest of the over went 6, 6, 6, 4 and six to finish.”

Haysom finished unbeaten on 208 in Honiton’s total of 357 for five. He hit 28 fours and 10 sixes as well a sharing in a stand of 189 for the second wicket with Mike Docherty, who did reach his own 50.

Bideford were bowled out for 184 in reply, Ian Hayter top scoring for them with 50.

Ian Kelly was the leading Honiton bowler with four wickets for 22 runs.
