IPPLEPEN Ladies opening bat Lydia Harris left an abiding memory on the 2021 Devon Women’s League Division Two campaign, when, in the final game of the season she scored a magnificent 210 not out in her team’s 122-run win at Bradninch.

Ipplepen skipper Lydia Hancock won the toss at the Kensham Park home of the hosts and chose to bat first and then sat back and admired the wonderful innings of her opening bat as the team closed on 290-3 after their 35 overs.

Harris dominated throughout, her first ‘ton’ came off 52 balls as she hit 16 fours and a six and, when the final delivery was bowled, she was unbeaten on 210 having been at the wicket for 137 minutes during which time she faced just 113 deliveries, hitting 35 fours and one six!

Neil Hancock, the Ipplepen coach, knows a thing or two about striking double hundreds as he made one in a T20 match for Sidmouth against Axminster.

Said Hancock: “Lydia played proper shots and looked very classy.

“Other than a couple of half-chances, both caught and bowled, it was almost chanceless.”

Even the opposition were impressed by Harris with Bradninch captain Megan Acton adding: “She was phenomenal.”

Ipplepen's Emily Martin hit 38 before being run out by Kirsty Trude and the other wickets to fall were Claire Hancock, bowled by Abby Hayes for four and Eadie Humphries, who was caught and bowled by Collete Bamber for three.

Naomi Hancock (19) was the other not out Ipplepen batter.

Bradninch had two unbeaten half-centuries in their reply of 168 for one. The only wicket to be lost was that of Fi Moran, who was caught by Lauren Edworthy off the bowling of Justine Sutton for eight.

That one wicket was taken in the eighth over with the score then 30-1, but then Bradninch skipper Megan Acton joined Trude and the pair added 138 for the unbroken second wicket.

Runs galore then on the final day of the season with 458 runs being scored for the loss of just four wickets in the 70 overs that were bowled.
