Under 15 Exeter girls take trophy in dawn til dusk competition

A misty start soon gave way to a beautiful day of cricket

Despite the dew on the ground and the swirling mist, the under 15s girls' competition started on time thanks to the ground staff and umpires. With five teams competing it was going to be a full schedule of cricket for the under 15s teams, umpires and scorers to find who would take the trophy. 

 

Bovey Tracey (39) vs Exeter (37) - Exeter win by 4 wickets

Exeter won the toss and elected to field and couldn't have asked for more when Erin Vukusic took a wicket with her first ball.              

              Batting Performances: Abi Lockett (Bovey) 20 retired and keeping her nerve while wickets fell around her.                                                          

Bowling performances: Abi Lockett  (Bovey) 2 wickets for 5 runs. Hat trick ball opportunity. Erin Vukusic (Exeter) and Imogen Daldorph, wickets with their first balls

 

Ipplepen (53) vs Paignton (51) - Ipplepen win by 3 wickets 

Played and hosted at Ipplepen cricket club - many thanks to them. A great first game which came down to the very last ball!

Batting performances: Lauren Edworthy (Ipplepen) 21 retired not out. A great performance as wickets continued to fall around her. 

 

Sidbury (68) vs Bovey (66) - Sidbury win by 3 wickets

Sidbury knock off the runs with overs to spare

Batting performances: Abi Lockett (Bovey) 20, Rosie Miller (Sidbury) 22, Lucy Humphries (Sidbury) 20 retired not out.  

Bowling performances: Rosie Miller and Lucy Humphries (Sidbury) 2 wickets each 

 

 

Exeter (80) vs Sidbury (40) - Exeter win by 40 runs

Exeter dominate with the bat and put on fielding display to keep Sidbury's total down 

Batting performances: Erin Vukusic (Exeter) 21, retired not out

Bowling performance: A great team effort by Exeter with all bowlers taking a wicket.

Fielding moment: The most amazing one handed catch from Imogen Daldorph     

 

 

Paignton (64) vs Bovey Tracey (65) - Bovey win by 1 run

Last ball tension as the game went to the end!

Batting performances: Good knock from Lily Colwill (Bovey) , carrying her bat to the end and Ella Gill (Paignton) as an under 11 holds her on, carrying her bat and also scoring scoring 13 not out

Bowling performance: Katie Southcott takes 2 important wickets to keep the run rate down

 

Ipplepen (23) vs Exeter (73) - Exeter win by 50 runs

Exeter in complete control in all areas of the game

Batting performance - Erin Vukusic (Exeter)  retired not out

Bowling performances: Lydia Hancock (Ipplepen) gave Ipplepen some hope with taking 2 wickets. Erin Vukusic had hat trick ball opportunity and Imogen Daldorph bowled and three wicket maiden over. 

 

Sidbury (80) vs Paignton (80) - game tied

Paignton looked to have the win, but a great knock by Lucy Humphries saved Sidbury the loss. 

Batting performance: Alice Brown (Paignton) 20 not out, Lucy Humphries (Sidbury) 28 not out.

Bowling performance: Ella Gill taking 3 wickets to keep Paignton in the game.

 

Bovey Tracey (68) vs Ipplepen (62) - Bovey win by 6 runs

Not quite enough runs off the bat for Ipplepen as Bovey keep them just short.  

Batting : Olivia Rockey (Bovey) 19 not out, keeps her head while wickets fall around her. Steady 17 scores for Naomi Hancock and Eadie Humphries.  

                     Bowling: Abi Lockett takes and wicket and crucial run out to keep the score just below that total needed.

 

 

Exeter (58) vs Paignton (57) - Exeter win by 7 wickets

Exeter chase down total in 5.1 overs with no loss of wickets.

Batting: Imogen Daldorph (Exeter), retired not out.

Bowling: Exeter bowled tightly. Of the 8 overs bowled, 60% of the balls were dots.

 

Sidbury (63)  vs Ipplepen (61) - Sidbury win by 7 wickets

Sidbury finish their event with a comfortable win, knocking off the required runs in 5.2 overs.

Batting: Lydia Hancock (Ipplepen), Lucy Humphries and Rosie Miller (Sidbury) retired not out.

Bowling: Charlotte Ausitn-Rigby taking the only wickets in the game.

During the day, the girls had to nominate a player from each team who they thought played really well. At the end of the day a manager had to nominate a player who they thought had contributed most to the team, whether that be through play, sportsmanship or team encouragement.
