Budleigh's Ben Phillips - in a Lions squad for the first time

DEVON have named a 13-man squad for the two-day Lions development game against Cornwall starting at Tavistock tomorrow (Tuesday).

The side has a strong west-Devon flavor to it as the county management want to look new candidates for the Lions programme.

Pace option - Gill CrouchGetting into the Lions set-up means intensive winter coaching aimed at honing players for the Minor Counties three-day side.

Lions captain Jamie Stephens, who made a seven-wicket debut against Wiltshire last week, is the latest graduate from the squad to break through.

Cornwood all-rounder Matt Skeemer gets an opportunity having impressed for his club all season.

Plymouth all-rounder Hallam Kerton is back in the squad after an absence. Mount Wise team-mate Dan Goodey is already part of the programme and plays as well.

Keeper-batter James Walsh gets an opportunity to show what he can do with the gloves on.

Play starts at 10.30am.

Heathcocat seamer Jamie Drew is in the team, as is Thorverton’s Gill Crouch.

Drew will be in the frame for the three-day game against Cheshire starting on Sunday after taking seven wickets on his debut against Herefordshire three weeks ago.

Injury prevented Drew playing against Wiltshire last week and the selectors will want to be sure he is fit.

Crouch gets a first call-up having bowled well for Thorverton all season, a six-wicket haul against Tavistock two weeks ago catching the eye.

Crouch is 6ft 5ins tall and bowls left-arm away swingers, something the county selectors haven’t had as an option in recent seasons.

Another left-arm bowling option being looked at is Budleigh Salterton’s Sid Fereday.
