DEVON’S Unicorns Trophy semi-final against Herefordshire at Sidmouth today was halted at a crucial stage when the DevonAir Ambulance landed on the ground.

Herefordshire were 225 for five chasing 283 to win when the helicopter landed on the outfield.

A member of the public had called 999 to report finding a man collapsed in a town centre street.

High winds prevented the helicopter landing at Sidmouth rugby ground, so the pilot diverted to the Fortfield cricket pitch.

The ambulance circled the ground several times to warn players the pilot wanted to land.

Two paramedics got out and made their way into town to deal with the casualty.
