DEVON Lions take on Warwickshire Academy XI at Sidmouth on Sunday in a 50-over friendly (noon).

Warwickshire were among the first county sides from the professional game to engage with Devon and their development programme in 2010.

The start time has been moved back from 11am to give Warwickshire some extra time to get down to Devon.

Having already beaten a Somerset Academy side at Paignton this season, the Lions have set the bar for future performances.

“I was delighted to see the quality of our ground fielding in the win over Somerset at Paignton and we will need to take that into this game,” said Lions director of coaching Tim Western.

Previous Lions' fixtures against Warwickshire have always been tough and I expect Sunday to be no different.

“Putting players in an environment over and above the standard of the Devon League is why we relish these fixtures.

“Players who have the right mental approach and who seek these challenges are the ones who will progress.”

Getting a side out has been an interesting exercise for Devon, who are conscious there are numerous demands on their talented young players at this time of year.

“There is a great deal of cricket happening at the moment,” said Western.

“We have been working with the DCB youth managers to manage the workload of the Under 17 players, who have a three-day game starting on Monday.”
