Lewdow through in Kaminski T20 qualifier

BILLY Searle hit the winning runs as Lewdown emerged triumphant from the Kaminski-West Devon T20 competition at Tavistock.

Lewdown defeated Bridestowe in the first semi-final to set up a meeting with Whitchuch Wayfarers, who defeated the host club in the other semi.

Lewdown, who won the toss and batted, posted a formidable 162 from their 20 overs against Bridestowe. Harry Geeering top scored with 64 and there was a useful 34 from Tallan Burns.

Bridestowe lost wickets at regular intervals with only Paul Fogerty with 23 making any sizeable contribution, as they were bowled out for 79. Leon Horn (3-16) and Dan Fogerty (2-16) were the pick of the bowlers.

Whitchurch, having won the toss and electing to bat, set off like an express train with Charlie (45) and Billy Barriball (38) putting on 90 in the first nine overs. Rob Bone made a patient 22 as the Tavistock’s bowlers regained control to limit the score to 155

Tavistock’s reply started slowly and at the halfway stage there was only 55 on the board mainly thanks to the efforts of Chris Bray (28).

A hundred to win of 10 overs was reduced to 16 from the last over mainly thanks to Dave Manning’s 61.

It proved an ask to far as Ben Hodge (4-30) picked up the wickets of Manning and Shaun Daymond as Tavistock fell eight runs short.

Whitchurch full of confidence from their semi win, elected to bat first in the final.

Thanks to some wayward early bowling, and a fine 47 from Billy Barriball, they posted 115 from their 20 overs, Searle (2-15) and Dan Fogerty (3-22) took the bowling honours.

Lewdown stumbled at first, losing Tallan Burns and Leon Horn cheaply, however Searle (34no) and man of the match Harry Geering (52) with a stand of 71 steadied the ship and took Lewdown to the brink of victory.

It was left to Searle to hit the winning runs for Lewdown
