Clyst take over at the top of B Division after win over Bridestowe | 'Our pace bowlers brought us right back into the game and set-up an exciting finish' – CSG skipper Dan Kendall

Cullompton

CLYST St George defeated Bridestowe by just two runs in to take over at the top of the B Division with five games to go.

Bovey Tracey 2nd XI, who were top, lost at Ipplepen and that defeat allowed Clyst to clamber two points ahead.

Bridestowe appeared to have done the hard bit by dismissing Clyst for 173 with skipper Dan Fogerty taking four wickets and two each going to Callum Mallett and Tom Pengelly.

Bridestowe were looking good at 103 for three in reply, but it was a different story after the middle order collapsed to 119 for seven. Bertie Creer (5-21) and Stephen Bourke (2-35) were the bowlers who did the damage.

Fogerty (19) and last pair Tom McGrattan (17) and Mallett got the target down to three to win, but were unable to improve on that before Clyst’s Andy Donovan took the final wicket.

Donovan (60) was Clyst’s leading run scorer. Chris Ferro made 30 and Ronaldo Callender 28.

Skippper Dan Fogerty (4-20) dominated the Bridestowe bowling stats. Pengelly, Billy Searle and Ryan Dennis all bowled at less than four an over.

Dennis then top scored with 40 for Bridestowe. Searle (22) and Penberthy both chipped in before it all went wrong.

Dan Kendall, the Clyst skipper, said: It was a tense game that could have gone either way.

“Our pace bowlers brought us right back into the game and set-up an exciting finish.

“Bridestowe bowled and fielded well and then got off to a flyer. Their lower order also dug in and fought til the end.

“Bridestowe were the better team for much of it, but we managed to snatch victory.”

Fogerty felt it was a game that got away, although he had no complaints about how the game turned Clyst’s way.

“Had a couple of decisions go our way we could have bowled them out for 90 and it would have been a different game,” said Fogerty.

“Saying that, we should have chased the runs down. But fair play to Creer, who bowled well, and Bourke

FOUR wickets for Brendon Parr and three more for Chris McKee sped Cullompton to a 176-run win over B Division stragglers Dartington & Totnes.

Dartington & Totnes are as good as relegated already as they are 82 points adrift at the foot of the table with 100 to play for.

The scrap above D&T to avoid the second drop spot involves five teams – one of which is Cullompton. Beating D&T gave Cully a 22-point cushion over Ivybridge in the second relegation place.

Cullompton hurtled along to 322 for nine in 45 overs with the Parr brothers taking leading roles with the bat.

Jason Parr made 91 and put on 102 for the third wicket with Tafara Mupariwa (51).

Brendon Parr went out when Mupariwa fell to Chris Cook and belted 10 fours and four sixes en-route to 95 off 57 balls in a stand of 97 with his brother.

Keeping the runs down was a problem for the D&T bowlers, although Madhav Narayan (4-62) and Dinesh Raheja (3-54) were compensated by wickets.

McKee (3-19) took out three of the D&T wickets to fall in a running total of 69 for five.

Opener James Lowden made a studious 38 for D&T. Other than extras (48) that was as good as it got for the visitors.

Brendon Parr took a wicket with the third ball of his spell – Chris Cook lbw for 18 – and went on to claim four for 17 as D&T were all out for 146.

Todd Scrace, the Cullompton captain, was looking for a response after the defeat by Clyst St George last time out and got it.

We were all determined to bounce back and that we did,” said Scrace.

“A big score, with significant contributions from the Parrs meant as soon as we got key wickets the game was ours.

“It was a thoroughly professional job done.”
