Bovey skipper Green quietly 'confident' of retaining Aaron Printers T20 Cup | Ansley the man in form after five-wicket haul and hat-trick in semi-final

Flashback! Bovey Tracey skipper Dan Green collecting the Aaron Printers Cup after the 2021 final – will Green win it again this Sunday?

BOVEY Tracey 2nd XI and Torquay meet head on at South Devon’s ground on Sunday (2pm) in the final of this season’s Aaron Printers Cup.

Bovey will be aiming to retain the trophy they won last year when they defeated Paignton 2nd XI in the final of the Twenty20 tournament.

With four wins in the final since 2012, when James Fulner smashed them to victory over Dartington & Totnes, Bovey will go into the game as favourites.Seb Ansley – five wickets and a hat-trick in the semi-final win over Stoke Gabriel

Torquay have not got their hands on the trophy since 2005 when captain Adam Last’s four-wicket haul paved the way for victory over Barton in a delayed final at Paignton.

Due to vandal damage on the pitch at Queen’s Park, the final had to be re-arranged on safety grounds.

Torquay were defeated semi-finalists this time last season when Paignton put them out.

Bovey Tracey defeated Stoke Gabriel by 129 runs to win their semi-final, which will be remembered for what Seb Ansley did against his former club.

Not content with scoring 40 in Bovey’s total of 173 for seven, Ansley then took five wickets to help gun down his former Stoke team-mates for 44.

Ansley’s five-for-ten haul included a hat-trick when he dismissed Isaac Mapima, Jake Robinson and Mike Meech with successive balls.

Torquay accounted for Abbotskerswell by 38 runs in the other semi-final after skipper Tom Drake top scored with 49 in their total of 149 for seven.

With Reuben Stanley (3-8) and Jono Colegate (0-12) keeping the runs down, Abbots only got as far as 111 all out in reply.

The man-of-the-match adjudicator for this year’s final is Ipplepen chairman Keith Wakeham, who was the 1st XI captain when his team defeated Dartington & Totnes to claim the cup in 2013.

Torquay play a division above Bovey on the league ladder, but any suggestion they are the favourites has been played down by skipper Tom Drake.

"Many of the players in that team are 1stXI players so we are expecting a tough final, but an enjoyable one,” said Drake.

Opposite number Green is quietly confident his team can retain the trophy they won last season.

“We are excited to play a good A division side to see how we compare,” said Gree.

“We are confident as you never know what can happen in a Twenty20, especially with the good youth we will have on show.”
