C West round-up – Week Seven: Spin is king for Stoke Gabriel in win over Teignmouth & Shaldon

STOKE Gabriel snicked into top gear to defeat visiting Teignmouth & Shaldon by 159 runs.

There were three half-centuries in Stoke’s total of 260 for eight: one each for Dan Bullock (51) and skipper Jack Tolley (52) and the 57 extras T&S gave away!

After Issac Tfadzwa and Ben Robinson took Stoke to 91 for two, Tolley and Bullock hoisted 109 for the third wicket to bring up maximum batting points.

Curtis Hayes (4-43) and Jawad Shirzad (2-34) were T&S’s leading wicket takers.

If the game was won and lost anywhere it was during the time Stoke sent T&S sliding from 43 for two to 59 for five. Losing three more wickets between 90 and 97 only confirmed the inevitable.

Teignmouth & Shaldon lost their last five wickets for just 11 runs en route to 101 all out.

Spin was king for Stoke with three wickets for Harrison Yeates and Dan Bullock plus two more for Kyle Lardner at the end.

SOUTH Devon remain rock-bottom in the C Division West after going down by 29 runs to Plymouth 2ndXI.

The city side’s top six all cashed-in with runs against winless South Devon. Openers Ollie Parsons (59) and Pete Evans (22) laid the foundations then Harry Stephenson (59), Hill, Tom Hughes (65no) and Nathan Birks (28) all joined in.

South Devon seamer Lahiru Samaradivakara had Hill in his three-for-59 return.

South Devon lost six overs batting time due to a rain break, which reduced their target down to 303 to win.

Opener and captain James Allen made 21 of the first 28 on the board and when he departed Ali Wright (69) and Noah Rider (57) kept chiselling away at the deficit. They put on 99.

Maintaining an asking rate of between seven and eight an over was demanding for the South Devon batters, despite some lusty blows from Harry Senior (42) and a bright-and-breezy 24 from Liam Price.

Richard Beaumont (19) and John Barlow (16) were the unbeaten batters when South Devon’s time ran out with the score on 273 for six.

Tom Hughes (2-62) was the lone Plymouth bowler with more than one wicket.

South Devon have now lost seven in a row and have slipped 31 points adrift of safety at the bottom.

KINGSBRIDGE ended a three-game wait for a win by inflicting a five-wicket defeat on visiting Ashburton.

After opener George Yabsley had been and gone for 31, Ashburton were glad of a stand of 57 between Adita More (42) and James Fraser (26) for reaching 141 for five.

Steve Edmonds, like Fraser a Kingsbridge old boy, and Ryan May added 75 for the seventh wicket with scores of 44 not out and 35 respectively.

Spinner Bhanu De Silva hogged the bowling limelight for Kingsbridge with a five-for-40 haul.

Kingsbridge never looked like slipping up on the chase once Richie Carr (36), Matt Peach (34) and Adi Maxwell (52) got them up to 193 for five. Will Dorey (46no) and De Silva (20no) took them the rest of the way.
