Perfect Plymstock rack-up win number seven | Lead now 29 points at top of the table

Tom Mitch – administered the coup de grâce to Yelverton

PLYMSTOCK have yet to drop a point in the C Division West after making it seven wins on the spin with a six-wicket verdict over Yelverton Bohemians.

The Moorlanders were bowled out for 142 with an over to go, which will have disappointed skipper Rob Grove immensely.

Yelverton were 96 for two after David Ackford (38) and Jonathan Malan (27) gave them a solid start, only to collapse to 109 for seven under pressure from Billy Gibson (3-25).Jonathan Malan – gave Yelverton a start

After a modest revival inspired by Hadleigh Scott-Kirk (13no), Plymstock’s Tom Mitch (2-17) applied the coup de grâce.

With the threat of rain interrupting the game, Plymstock’s batters got on with it in anticipation of run-rate coming into play.

Skipper James Nicholls (27) and Alex Karvelas (41no) motored Plymstock along to 107 for four before rain stopped play in the 23rd over. They were more than 30 runs ahead of the asking rate at the time.

Winning captain Nicholls said it was a good day to bat second and a good toss to win.

Nicholls added: “Saying that we got on top and controlled the run rate as we've done all year.

“Everyone bowled very well and it was great to see Tom Mitch and Billy Gibson send down really good spells.

“We got ahead of the run rate early and controlled the innings.”

Plymstock are 29 points ahead of Plymouth 2nd XI at the top of the C West table, but have two toughies ahead.

“We have two hard games coming up against Plymouth 2nd XI and Teignmouth & Shaldon so lots of hard yards to do, but in a great position so far,” said Nicholls.
