THREE wickets each for Matt Puttock and Dom Snyman helped Tavistock to a 22-run win over visiting Ipplepen.

The Moorlanders totalled 186 for eight in a 45-over match, then reduced Ipplepen to 20 for four in reply. Although Neil Hancock got Ipplepen back in the game with 62, once he went Pens collapsed in a heap as four wickets went for seven runs added.

Tavistock were glad of an 84-run partnership between Dave Manning (55) and Sean Cleave (54no) for rescuing then from 86 for six.Matt Puttock – three wickets for Tavistock against Ipplepen

Andrew Bligh (4-45) and Marcus Green (2-29) were the leading Ipplepen wicket takers.

Snyman (3-34) took the first three Ipplepen wickets – they were 10 for three – and a wicket each for Ryan Burke and both Barriball brothers heaped more pressure on the visitors;.

Hancock, who survived a confident shout for caught behind from the first ball bowled to him by Snyman, and George Tapley (29) appeared to have put Pens back on course. But Puttock (3-32) snared the former lbw and proceeded to mop up the stragglers.

Victory moved Tavistock 12 points clear of the relegation places in the B Division. Ipplepen drop from top to second as Bovey Tracey defeated Clyst St George to go past them.

Simon Tapley, the Ipplepen team manager, said after a promising start in the field things started to slip.

“We restricted Tavvy to to 42 for two in the first 15 overs, but dropped Manning three times and Cleave twice and they put on 84,” said Tapley.

“We bowled better with Marcus Green, Adam Bryce and Andy Bligh exceptional.

“Tavvy probably scored 30 more than they should have, but we would have happily taken 187 to win at the start.”

Tapley said at 10 for three the Ipplepen chase was in danger of stalling before Hancock, Tapley, Bryce and Sutton got going.

“When Hancock was out we needed 30 off 12 overs with three wickets left and to lose those then for seven runs was disappointing,” said Tapley.

“We are losing too many wickets in clusters and batsman have to take more responsibility and finish games.”

Tapley said 50-50 decisions against Ipplepen did not help, but added: “Dropping Dave Manning on nine and twice in the 20s made the difference.”
