BARTON won for the first time in four starts when they defeated Budleigh Salterton by 19 runs.

Opener Siddesh Veer made 40 prior to Sean Adderley digging in for a top score of 53 in Barton’s total of 172 all out.

Adderley was involved in stands of 49 with Beer and exactly 50 with skipper Adam Parker (27). He was out there for 111 deliveries before Joel Murphy (2-44) squirmed one through his defences. Will Oxland - top scored for Budleigh Salterton

Chathura Peiris (3-30) was the prime wicket taker. Spinner Ed Doble (2-18 off 10) was the meanest bowler.

Budleigh must have fancied their chances when they were 104 for one in reply with Will Oxland and Marc Troman both in residence.

Stuart Bowker (3-28) had Oxland caught behind for 55, Troman fell to Veer (2-14) and that was the start of a slump to 119 for six. Five wickets fell for 14 runs scored with Parker (3-31) getting in on the act.

Lloyd Murrin, the Budleigh captain, has dug his side out of similar predicaments this season and had another go. He finished on 24 not out after Bowker and Callum Crocker (2-34) had finished off the stragglers.

Parker said there was lots to commend in Barton’s performance to obtain a long-awaited win.

“We applied ourselves well with the bat although at the halfway stage we thought we may have been 20-30 runs short,” said Parker.

“Our bowling and fielding was the best it has been this year: we gave nothing away with the ball and everyone threw themselves around in the field.”
