Elliot Hamilton - hammered Exeter

PLYMPTON moved on from their defeat by Exmouth with a 37-run win over Exeter in the A Division.

Opener Elliot Hamilton showed the form that has impressed the Devon management by hitting 112 in a Plympton total of 307 for seven.

Hamilton, who hit 14 fours and two sixes, was finally out with the score on 216 for four when he was bowled by Billy Buckingham with 10 overs to go.

Tino Mutombodzi (50) and Jonty Walliker (43) kept the runs coming almost to the last of Plympton’s 50 overs.

Jehan Daniel (2-45) and Sam Read (2-47) were the most effective of the Exeter bowlers.

Exeter made a serious attempt to chase down the runs with Harry Fisher (43), Read (58) and Daniel (57) all getting on with it in different ways. Fisher was the anchorman while Read and Daniel played their shots.

Jacob Caunter (3-39) took out Daniel and Buckingham (26) as Exeter slowed to 253 for seven. Hamilton (2-31) spun out the tail-enders as Exeter folded on 270.

Walliker, the vice-captain, said Plympton’s batsmen over-performed which gave the bowlers some leeway.

“Elliot Hamilton hit a fantastic hundred, well supported by Tino, and 307 was probably 30 over par, even on a very good deck,” said Walliker.

“The top order set it up well for the middle- and lower-order batters to have a whack!

“Exeter have some good players and we were wary of Read and Daniel.

“On a day where batsman dominated, Jacob Caunter was superb at the top and the death.

“A useful help was Mathew Knight running out the useful Harry Fisher and getting rid of the dangerous Felix Joseph at number three.”
