Van der Meulen star man for Thorverton in win at Barton | Daldorph (pictured) adds impetus late in game

Thorverton

JASON van der Meulen was Thorverton’s star man with bat and ball in a 49-run win at Barton.

Thorverton were all out for 140 in the 35th of their 50 overs with no one scoring more than their South African all-rounder, who hit 45.

George Daldorph injected some lower-order impetus with 36 that helped add 39 for the last three wickets.

Barton’s destroyer in chief with the ball was Indian under-19 starlet Siddesh Veer, who booked figures of six for 21. Callum Crocker accounted for both Thorverton openers.

Barton stumbled to 19 for three against Thors’ acting captain Ben Slaviero and were 35 for six after a three-wicket salvo from van der Meulen that included the dangerous Veer.

Jack Bell (22) and tail-ender Stuart Bowker (11) made the only double-figure scores other than extras (25) in Barton’s all-out tally of 91.

What Slaviero (2-12) and van der Meulen (3-19) started was finished off by Dan Robbins (2-14) and George Daldorph (2-13).

For Slaviero, deputising for Jake Choules, a second successive win was something to celebrate.

“It is good to get some momentum which, hopefully, we can keep going,” said Slaviero.

Looking back on the match, Slaviero said Thors probably left a few runs out there.

“It felt like we could have scored more then 140, but we thought it was a competitive total,” he said.

“We bowled really well, took early wickets and didn't give them many bad balls.”

[O] THORVERTON batsman Dave Baldock scored an unbeaten century for the 2nd XI in their seven-wicket win over Topsham St James.

Baldock was 104 not out when Thors passed Saints total of 221 for three in the E Division East game.
