Hockin (pictured) takes a ton off Chardstock AND claims six of their wickets in man-of-match performance

Jack Hockin – man of the moment for North Devon 2nd XI

NORTH Devon all-rounder Jack Hockin starred with bat and ball in the 2ndXI’s 128-run win over Chardstock at Instow.

Hockin went in at 10 for one after Ed Yeo made an early exit and saw Richard Screech go without addition.

That was as good as it got for Chardstock as Hockin and Rob Ayre totted up a third-wicket stand of 273 en route to a team total of 283 for two.

Hockin was the senior partner in the stand with 14 fours and three sixes in an unbeaten score of 142.

Ayre put away 14 fours at the other end from Hockin while compiling his 113 not out.

Hockin then rolled-up his sleeves and got stuck into Chardstock with the ball. He took six wickets for 35 runs conceded as the visitors were bowled out for 155.

Jonny Green, the North Devon captain, said: “It was a brilliant shift from the boy.”

BARNSTAPLE & Pilton skipper Lee Cole could not hide his disappointment at losing by 127-runs to Whimple in the D Division East.

Whimple were 237 all out in the last of their 45 overs then dismissed B&P for 110.

Said Cole: “I thought when we had them 90 for fiive at drinks we stood a chance of maybe getting them all out for under 150.

“Their bottom order batted well and gave them a good total.

“We needed to bat well to get there. We didn't, which is obviously disappointing.”

Whimple’s early runs came from Will Greig (22), Luke Phillips (30) and Nathan Bright, who was seventh man out on 157.

Brad Smith (29), David Drury (43) and Luke Witton (45) added another 80 runs for the last three wickets.

Cole (4-31) and George Elnaugh (2-30) were B&P’s leading bowlers.

Matt Newton (21) and Rob Holm (30) got B&P to 59 for two in reply before a collapse of monumental proportions ended the game as a contest.

Wickets fell to Brad Smith (3-7), Freddie Fenner (3-27) and Nathan Bright (2-26) as seven wickets fell getting from 71 to 89.

Last man Giles Bashford (18) ensured a second batting bonus point by taking B&P past 100.

CLYST Hydon made it two wins on the spin at the top of the D Division East – and no dropped points so far – when they defeated Feniton by 59 runs.

Opener Jamie Edwards made 56 in a running total of 110 for three and when he went Keith Herselman took over.

Herselman (74) was the last man out in a Clyst total of 229 having dominated stands worth 119 runs. None of his batting partners made more than last man Ollie Marks (9).

Matt Davies (4-46) was the most effective Feniton bowler. John Buckland (2-27 off nine) was the most efficient.

Feniton plunged to 48 for four in response and from that position it was going to take something special to turn the game around.

Jack Tucker (63) and Buckland (45) did put on 113 for the fifth wicket, but once they were separated the wheels fell off.

Jeff Sanders (2-23) picked off Tucker and Buckland then Chris Holmes (3-30) ran through what was left as Feniton collapsed from 161 for four to 170 all out.

SAMPFORD Peverell & Tiverton were on the wrong end of an 85-run scoreline away to Budleigh Salterton 2ndXI.

Harvey Shipton top scored for Budleigh with 32 off 43 balls – eight fours, two sixes – and that was after Steve Booth (43) and Dan Messom (48) had put on 83 for the second wicket.

Bits and pieces from Lee Russell, Joe Marley and Kam Posapalli – all more than 20 – got the total up to 267 for seven.

Josh Kallway with five for 51 was head and shoulders above the rest of the SP&T bowlers.

Sampford Peverell & Tiverton were all out for 182 with more than four overs to go, although the outcome had long been decided by then.

Tom Lock (29) and Joe Parkinson (34) made 44 for the second wicket in the only stand of note. Matt Summerfield (22) and Tim Hill contributed lower down the order.

Adam Jones (4-41) and Russell (2-23) were Budleigh’s leading wicket takers.

JERMAINE Harding helped himself to a maiden DCL century for Shobrooke Park in their 97-run win over Clyst St George.

The West Indian all-rounder was supported by Chris Simpson (65) as Shobrooke reached 272 for seven.

A four-wicket haul for Adrian Codling (4-29) helped bundle-out Clyst for 175. Only Harry O’Dwyer (39) and Ollie Chatterjeee (32) offered much resistance.
