CLYST St George lost for only the second time this season in the C Division East when Upottery defeated them by seven wickets.

St George remain top of the table, but are only 10 points clear of second placed Exmouth, who have a game in hand.

Skipper Dan Kendall top scored on 45 for CSG, who were all out for 159 with eight balls of their 45 overs to bowl.

Kendall and Chris Ferro (18) put on 59 for the first wicket in the only stand worth noting.

Spinner Jack Larcome (3-17) and Andrew Pulman (3-21) did the damage with the ball for Upottery.

George O’Dwyer (2-21) rocked Upottery with two early wickets, but from 10 for two onwards the home side made serene progress towards the target.

The only other wicket to fall went down at 72 as Matt Broom (30), James Mitcham (55no) and Rob Tasker (44no) made light work of the chase.

ALEX Clements and Eddie Rudolph both made half-centuries in Ottery St Mary’s 24-run win over Exeter 2ndXI.

A stand of 81 for the third wicket between Clements and Rudolph underpinned Ottery’s total of 184 for eight. Freddie Eul-Barker chipped in 25 not out at the end.

Mark Gribble, Exeter’s former Devon all-rounder and current captain of the county’s over-50s’ team, topped the bowling stats with four for 26.

Exeter could have done with an anchorman to build a chase round, but no one made more than Gribble (24). Matt Jeacock (3-19) made sure of that.

Graham White (21) and Adam Fradgley (22) made some inroads, so did Gribble and Tommy Stewart (22) and at 121 for five the game was there to be one.

Sam Brook (3-29) and Sam O’Nyons (2-16) combined to take the last five wickets as Exeter subsided to 160 all out.

WHIMPLE are stuck in the bottom two after sliding to defeat at home to fellow strugglers Sandford 2ndXI.

Matt Porter (61) and Cameron Kidd (52) were the main run getters for Whimple in a total of 216 for four.

Sandford knocked-off the runs with four wickets in hand. James Theedom made 93 not out and Jason Matten weighed in with 36.

Sandford are still second-bottom, but have a 13-point advantage over Whimple,

EXMOUTH 2ndXI had to pull their derby date against Sidmouth 2ndXI when one of their players tested positive for Covid.

“Hopefully, we will replay the game against Sidmouth on Sunday, July 15,” said Exmouth captain Richard Baggs.

SHOBROOKE Park’s called off their game against Braunton due to a Covid-19 alert.
