CLYST St George sent Shobrooke Park reeling to a second successive defeat whey they beat them by 41 runs on the Bohea Field.

Clyst were glad of 40 from Jayak Nallala in the middle order for moving them on from 83 for five towards an eventual total of 160 all out.  Dan Kendall (21) and Andy Donovan (25) had the only other scores of note.

Chris Ford (4-22) picked up wickets when Clyst tried to up the temp after a lean time against Andrew Codling and Chris Simpson with the new ball.

Shobrooke were in a very similar situation at 86 for six when they batted, but had no one to hold it together.

Jon James (40) and Josh Lamprecht (28) had the only significant scores for Shobrooke as they subsided to 119 all out. The last four wickets went for just seven runs.

Inder Singh (3-12) was the only Clyst bowler with more than two wickets.

The table-topping Saints are away to lowly Sandford 2ndXI this Saturday.

SANDFORD 2ndXI won for the first time this season in the C Division East when they beat Exeter 2ndXI by five wickets.

James Bovey gave the Exeter team management a nudge with an unbeaten 111 in the home sides tally of 196 for six.

Skipper Graham White offered support in a stand of 41 for the third wicket and Ollie Gribble (21) was Bovey’s running mate in a fourth-wicket pairing worth 43.

Liam Gardner (2-30) and Shaun Hawkins (2-37) were Sandford’s primary wicket takers. Shaun Fryett (1-22 off 9) could barely have been meaner.

Chris Blake (27) and Tom Gidney (42) got the first 50 wiped off and the runs kept coming, even though Mike Wilkinson (3-28) slowed things down from time to time.

Archie Osborne (20) kept the chase on course, which left Ben Clement (37no) and Jason Matten (21no) to nearly finish it.

Rain stopped play when Sandford were 178 for five in the 36thover, which was far enough ahead of the required run rate to give them the match.

Although it was their first win it was not enough to haul Sandford off the bottom of the table yet. They need four points to get past Upottery and Whimple.

OTTERY St Mary are hovering just above the C East relegation zone following a 68-run setback against visiting Braunton.

Defeat leaves Ottery just seven points clear of Upottery in the second drop spot with the halfway stage of the season arriving this Saturday with a trip to Sidmouth.

Braunton skipper Callum Mitchell set the right example with 69 off 75 balls – 10 fours and two sixes – in his side’s 45-over total of 219 all out.

By the time Mitchell was dismissed he had put on 63 with Tom Robotham (30) for the fourth wicket.

Jamie Lathwell (20), Jon Baglow (19) and Andy Norman (21) all chipped in down the order.

Will Harrison (3-53) was Ottery’s leading wicket taker. Matt Jeacock, Luke Tierney and Harsha Liyanage kept the runs below four an over.

Ottery were soon in trouble 10 for five after an early battering from James Lake (3-25) and Jamie Lathwell (2-23). Four batters came and went without managing a run between them- three in the space of four balls to Lake to catches in the cordon.

Skipper Alex Clements dug in for 39 off 105 balls and with brother Jody (26) at the other end the score advanced to 62 for six. Steve Moore (2-17) finally prised out the captain.

Tom Jeacock (46) took Ottery most of the rest of the way to an eventual total of 141 all out, which was well short of a rain-revised target of 210 to win in 43 overs.

EXMOUTH 2ndXI had too much firepower in their batting line-up for Whimple in a 44-run win that keeps them second in the table.

Exmouth raced along to 302 for eight in their 45 overs, inspired by opener and captain Richard Baggs with 70.

Baggs was involved in stands of 56 with Mark Ashplant and 58 with Lawrence Greenway (42) before handing over to the middle order after falling to Oli Whitton (4-57) on 114.

Will Gingell, Tom Bath and Sean Day all made 31 as the total mounted. And Ryan Schaufler helped himself to a quick 43 not out at the end.

Whimple’s reply reached a watery end on 131 for one when rain stopped play after 26 overs – Luke Phillips unbeaten on 70. They were behind the asking rate of nearly seven an over at the time.

ELLIOTT Rice reminded Sidmouth’s selectors what he can do with the bat by reeling off 92 in the 2ndXI’s 39-run win over basement side Upottery.

Rice is averaging more than 30 in the second team this season, which presses his claims for a run in the first team.

Nick Gingell (35) and Anthony Griffiths (49no) were Sidmouth’s supporting acts in a total of 22 for five.

Upottery’s top order ran into trouble against Lee Clayden (4-49) and at 37 for for had it all to do to stay in the game.

James Mitcham (36) and Ryan Pulman (38) made inroads and Sidmouth were glad to see the back of the later at 126 for six.

Adam Pulman kept the chase going from one end, but wickets fell at the other to Jordan Fowler (2-26) and Jash Patidar (2-27). Pulman was last man out for 42 in a total of 193.
