Tom Porter – four wickets for Barton in the win at Babbacombe

D DIVISION WEST ROUND-UP By CONRAD SUTCLIFFE

BARTON’S Andy Hele rolled back the years with a quickfire century in the second team’s 44-run win at Babbacombe.

Hele, who played more than 50 times for Devon during his heyday, walloped 11 sixes and 10 fours on his way to 127 not out.

Babbacombe could have got him out for nothing, but skipper Rob Redding dropped him off the bowling of Ben Passmore before he got off the mark.

Next best in Barton’s total of 207 all out was Nathan Beech’s 19.

Steve Bowman (4-31) had Barton wobbling at 34 for four before Hele got going. Tim Goodwin (3-48) got among the wickets late in proceedings.

Tom Porter (4-17) nipped out both Babbacombe openers for two runs scored. Jinu Kurian (57) and Bowman (26) got the Walls Hill side moving before wickets started falling again.

Steve Broad (36no) shored up the bottom half of the Babbacombe order, but with Ben Lipton taking three wickets, Chris Needham a couple and Porter dispatching the tail-ender they were all out for 163.

KINGSBRIDGE remain top of the table in the C Division West after a crushing 227-run win over Ipplepen 2ndXI.

In-form Richard Carr walloped Pens’ bowling for 118 and a brace of 69s from James Westlake and Julian Bertie got Town up to 327 for four.

Pens’ change bowlers took some stick towards the end, although Alan Boon had the compensation of three wickets from the four overs that cost him 51 runs.

Ipplepen nosedived from 40 for one to 49 for eight as Neil Douglas (7-36) and Neal Peach (1-12 off 9) tore through their batting.

Veteran tail-enders Keith Bell (20) and Keith Wakeham (26) put on 47 for the ninth wicket to delay the inevitable.

PLYMSTOCK 2nd XI did not waste any time completing a nine-wicket win over Kingskerswell & Chelston in the D Division West.

The Villagers were limited to 121 for nine in their 45 overs by some miserly bowling from George Barnicott (3-16), Tom Baker (2-22) and Luke Dennis, who sent down nine overs for just 17 runs scored.

Nick Guest (21) and Jake Kearney (22) were the only K&CC batters to make more than 20.

An opening stand of 48 between Josh Hocken (24) and Paul Birleson set the tone for Plymstock’s reply.

Birleson (63no) and Mikesh Kansagra (20no) had the job done with more than 20 overs to go.

A DOUBLE bowling change at just the right time pointed Yelverton towards a nine-wicket win over Abbotskerswell 2nd XI.

Abbots, who won the toss and batted, were going steadily at 72 for two after 20 overs with a wicket each for Yelverton bowlers Hadleigh Scott-Kirk and Josh Stephenson.

Aiden Lightowlers (27) and Charlie Hill (31) were the main run-getters up to that point for Abbots,

A double bowling change prompted a dramatic change of events with Mike Lemmings (5-19) and Ben Grove (2-15) taking seven wickets for just 34 runs in the next 15 overs.

Sam Crompton bowled last man Leroy Lane with the first ball of his second spell and Abbotskerswell were all out for 112.

Yelverton openers David Ackford (53no) and Ben Grove (38) got the measure of the bowling relatively quickly and Yelverton knocked off the required runs in just 21 overs for the loss of just one wicket.

JOSH Towl hammered out a second successive league century as Whitchurch got the better of Plympton 2ndXI by 102 runs.

Skipper Towl followed his 142 not out against Plymstock seven days earlier with 171 as Whitchurch blazed away to reach 286 all out.

Support came from Dan Towl (20) during a stand of 106 for the fourth wicket and Tom Cotter (20) while 64 was added for the sixth wicket.

Adam Sellick with five for 51 topped the Plymstock bowling returns.

It looked like game over for Plympton when they were 29 for five in reply after a good going over from Dan Towl (4-15). The lower half of the order had other ideas…

Sam Agnew (28) and Chris Dunstan (41) started a fightback and the Whitchurch skipper was glad to see Marc Kerswill break their partnership after they had added 78.

Tom Miller (29) and Ben Phillips (28) accumulated some batting bonus points while they were in residence.

Phillips was the last man out in a Plymstock total of 184.
