D Division West round-up: Towl fumes at batters after dismal show against Kingsbridge | 'It was an absolute horror show' – Towl

By CONRAD SUTCLIFFE

OPENER David Ackford nailed Ipplepen’s attack for a century in Yelverton’s 177-run win in the D Division West.

Ackford made 105 not out in a Yelverton tally of 288 for eight. Ben Grove scored 30 of the first 47 on the board, then Ackford took over.

By the time Ackford was seventh out in the last over he had put on 82 with Rob Grove (67) and 65 with Martin Goff (24).Mike Lemmings chipped in with 22 not out.

Veteran spinner Keith Wakeham (3-24) dominated the Ipplepen bowling returns.

The Pens were all out for 111 and were probably fortunate to get as far as they did.

Josh Stevenson (3-26) and Hadleigh Scott-Kirk (3-13) were largely responsible for reducing Pens to 39 for seven in reply. Tail-enders Noah Sutton, Paul Thomas and last man Harry Lewis (20) detained Yelverton longer than anticipated.

WHITCHURCH skipper Josh Towl was fuming after his side were bundled out for a measly 33 en-route to a 184-run defeat by Kingsbridge.

“It was an absolute horror show of a batting performance,” said Towl. “We did not place any value on our wickets.”

Openers James Westlake (89) and Richie Carr (63) were Kingsbridge’s leading scorers in a total of 217 all out. There were two wickets each for Josh Towl, Darren Sambells, Rob Bone and Marc Kerswill.

Whitchurch were always on a loser after careering from five for three to 20 for five then 29 for eight and on to 33 all out.

Carr and Neal Peach took two wickets each up top, leaving spinner Bhanu De Silva (5-12) to wrap things up.

A CENTURY stand between Surya Suresh (31) and Keith Willcock (69) set Plympton 2ndXI on the path to a 49-run win in the derby clash with Plymstock.

Suresh and Willcock shovelled the bowling for 103 for the first wicket in a 45-over total of 194.

Four Plymstock bowlers took two wickets each – none cheaper than Luke Dennis (2-16).

Plymstock’s top score was in the extras column, where 39 wides contributed to a grand total of 56 sundries!

Wayne Wilson, run out for 27, was the leading Plymstock run getter,

Matt Draper bowled enough straight balls to take four Plymstock wickets for 26 runs in his nine overs.

BARTON eased their way to a seven-wicket win over Abbotskerswell after doing the hard work first with the ball.

Veterans Martin Powell (2-16) and Gary Spencer (4-22) – both played in Barton’s Premier heyday in the 1980s – worked their way through Abbots’ middle order once skipper Charlie Hill (43) had gone.

Former Barton batter Adam Latham (30) and Tom Askew (21) put up a fight, but no one else made more than eight as Abbots subsided to 133 all out.

Leroy Lane dispatched Barton opener Jack Bell in the first over, but there was little else for Abbots as Nathan Beech (32), Andy Pugh (18) and Chris Needham (47) steered the home side to victory.
