CHUDLEIGH stay hard on the heels of Kilmington at the top of the B Division standings after winning by 34 runs at Ivybridge.

Adam Kent (79) and Will Heather (50) were Chudleigh’s main run getters in a total of 200 for six in 45 overs.

Kent and Heather got Chudleigh going after a slow start with a stand of 58 for the fifth wicket. Kent was fifth out on 160.

Harvey Johnson (43) and Dinesh Raheja (38) got Ivybridge up and running and at 98 for two they were in the driving seat. But not for much longer.

Six wickets fell for 18 runs scored as Ivybridge nosedived to 114 for eight. Chudleigh captain Heather started the slide by dismissing Johnson and went on to take five for 16. Spinner Rob Clarke (2-39) also got in on the act.

Fernando made 25 in a lost cause before he was last man out in the Ivybridge total of 166.

Will Heather, the Chudleigh captain, said it was a ‘class’ performance in all areas and he was proud of his players’ for the determination they showed.

“We were put under a bit of early pressure with the bat and showed real grit to get through a tricky period,” said Heather.

“Adam Kent looked class in the middle and deserved three figures. Hopefully this is just the start of big things to come from him. He has slotted into the top order amazingly.

“We started slowly with the ball and were put under pressure by the Ivybridge top order. But we showed real fight and dug in to swing the momentum back to us. We held all our chances and were faultless in the field.”
