CRICKETERS who have passed through the Devon Women’s squad are well represented among the new signings just announced for the planned Hundred competition.

The Hundred, a city-based competition, will feature eight teams playing 100-ball matches. Men’s and women’s teams are due to take part, subject to Covid-19 regulations at the time.

Teams from Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Southampton and two from the London area are scheduled to take part.

Amara Carr, formerly of Plympton and an ex-Devon captain, has been named as an addition to the London Spirit squad, although she probably would have played in 2020 had the tournament gone ahead.

Carr, the captain of the Sunrisers ladies side, is among the lady cricketers currently on ECB central contracts.

A new addition to the London Spirit squad is all-rounder Aylish Cranstone, who spent six seasons with Devon while she was studying at the University of Exeter.

Cranstone, who also turned out for Plympton, went on to play Kia Super League cricket with Western Storm after leaving Devon at the end of the 2011 season. Her selection for London Spirit is a natural progression.

England captain Heather Knight, the former Plymstock and Plymouth CS&R youth player, will remain as captain of the London Spirit squad.

Trevor Griffin, the Devon-trained coach from Exeter, who masterminded Sydney Thunder Women’s Big Bash triumph in Australia last year, is the London Spirit coach.

Prolific run getter Georgia Hennessy has been added to the Cardiff-based Welsh Fire squad. Hennessy had two seasons with Devon – 2018 and 2019 – and played for Plympton when other commitments allowed.

Hennessy, a regular in men’s cricket when she played in Worcestershire before moving to Devon, thrashed Buckinghamshire for 97 not out off 63 balls in a T20 game during the 2018 season.
