Wollens SDYL managers ready to assist member clubs arranging friendlies

By CONRAD SUTCLIFFE

THERE won’t be any organised cricket in the Wollens-sponsored South Devon Youth League this summer.

But compeititon managers will help member clubs arrange friendly matches if they want them.

Although clubs have been given the go-ahead to start playing from this weekend the SDYL management has decided not to join in.

Mark Faulkner, the SDYL chairman, said so much of the season had been lost it was pointless trying to start a league programme now.

“It is just too late to put together any sort of league fixture list now,” said Faulkner.

“The summer holidays are about to start and many of the kids who would have been playing will be going away.

“We have advised out clubs to arrange friendlies if they want to, but that might be difficult.

“A number of Sundays are out because of the Brockman Cup and playing friendlies does not appeal to some players.

“Only one of our clubs has been in touch with me asking for contact details of other clubs to arrange friendlies with.”

Any clubs interested in arranging youth fixtures should call Faulkner on 07593 828578 for contact details of potential opponents.
