Dad and lad honoured at Ipplepen CC's awards dinner

FATHER and son John and Marcus Gadie were both honoured with awards at Ipplepen’s annual dinner and presentation evening.

Dad John was presented with the club’s volunteer award in recognition of his work and willingness to stand as an umpire in 2nd XI and friendly matches.

Son Marcus was presented with a bottle of bubble as champagne moment winner. He won the award for taking his first five-wicket haul in a game against Kilmington.

Callum Stanley, who hit 511 league runs last season, was named 1st XI player of the year but was unable to attend the event. Brother Reuben collected the award on his behalf.

Steve Bowden was an easy choice as second team player of the year having had a summer to remember with bat and ball. Bowden (464) was joint top run getter along with Matt Quartley and took 20 wickets at 24.60 runs each. Quartley and Harry Lewis were batter and bowler of the season respectively.

The promotion-winning third team owed much to the reliability of batter Tom Cooper – he averaged 67 – and bowler Steve Harris, who took 28 wickets.

Other awards went to hard-working Andrew Maynard – clubman of the year – and most-improved player Ollie Holroyd.

Ipplepen’s next close-season event is the annual meeting on November 26 at the Union Inn, Denbury.
