DEVON CCC’s former finance director was presented with a retirement gift during the game against Wiltshire at Sandford.

Chris Theedom, a retired accountant, served as the county club’s treasurer then director of finance between 2008 and 2018. He stood down during the last close season.

Theedom’s retirement pastime is as volunteer groundsman at Sandford CC, where he was a player and administrator for many years.  It was a fitting venue to make the presentation before play started against Wiltshire.

Theedom looked after the county finances during a period of change for the county club, which moved to a more corporate structure of directorships in 2010. Out went secretary and treasurer: in came chief executive and finance director.

Neil Gamble, the county club’s chairman, presented Theedom with glass tankard engraved with the club’s rampant lion badge and a suitable inscription. Theedom took over in 2008 from the late John Tozer, who had been treasurer since 1992

Two more presentations were made prior to the match, both of them to current players.

County club sweaters are presented to players after they have made five appearances in the Unicorns County Championship. The latest recipients are captain Alex Barrow and opening bowler Hugo Whitlock.
