Barriball shows county form in First win in three for Tavistock

Matt Crampton - three wickets for Barton against Tavistock

TAVISTOCK won for the first time in three starts when they defeated relegation worriers Barton by 63 runs at the Ring.

Tavvy’s prospects did not look that great after they were bowled out for 147 in the 43rd of their 50 overs.

As Dylan Aucamp made 23 and Billy Barriball 63, there was not much from the rest in the Tavistock innings. Next best with 14 was Charlie Barriball.

Three wickets each for Rob Shergold and Matt Crampton accounted for most of the frontline batters. Stuart Bowker’s brace was dangerous duo James White and Harry Geering.

Barton slumped to 28 for three against Aucamp (3-26), consolidated while Adam Parker (22) and Shaun Needham (13) hung around for a dozen overs, then slid to 84 all out.

Charlie Barriball (5-26) showed why the Devon management have been paying attention to him with a five-wicket haul.

Tavistock are 64 points clear of the relegation places and unlikely to get sucked close to the danger.

The top of the table is 40 points distant, which skipper Shaun Daymond knows is too far now to mount a promotion challenge.

Realistically, Daymond is already looking ahead to next season.

“We're happy with our cricket and can see where we need to improve to be a top side,” said Daymond.

Barton skipper Parker said it was a tough defeat to swallow after doing so well in the field.

“Frustrating that our batting let us down after we performed well with the ball,” said Parker.

“Graft and hard work is needed with the bat and quickly. If we can get our batting right then we will string wins together.”
