Honiton off mark with a win - more reports wanted from this division

Honiton launched their Tolchards Devon League D Division East campaign in style with an eight wicket Mountbatten Park win against Woodbury.

Honiton skipper Ollie Cave won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first.

It was Brian Cann who proved to be the star of the show with the ball, claiming four wickets for 24 runs.

The supporting acts came from Adam Thompson, who took 2-33 in his first game back in Honiton colours for some time, and Ben Kidson.

It was Cann who led a comfortable run chase, top scoring with an unbeaten 74.

Tom Strawbridge was the other not out batsman, unbeaten on 28 when the winning line was crossed after just 23 overs.

Skipper Cave said: “I am really thrilled with the first game and win as captain. Winning the toss and choosing to field first seemed to pay off as we bowled them out for a very gettable score.

“I felt we held a measure of control throughout with ball and then bat – to chase down the total in just 23 overs was very pleasing - and that augers well for the rest of the season. It was great to have Adam (Thompson) and Tom (Strawbridge) back playing in the side and if we can continue to enjoy good availability and maintain the high standards we have set in this opening game then, with plenty of hard work, we will enjoy more good days this league season.”

Next up for Lapping and his men  is a trip this coming Saturday (May 14) to a Tiverton side that were single wicket winners at Culmstock on the opening day.
