Dan's the man as Civil end long wait for a win

The winning Plymouth CS&R team after their successful run chase at Whitchurch

PLYMOUTH Civil Service & Roborough are off the mark and off the bottom of the D Division West thanks to a six-wicket win at Whitchurch.

Civil went into the game on the back of an eight-game losing streak dating back to August last season when they beat Barton by 102 runs.

Whitchurch piled up 274 for five in their 45 overs, which skipper Josh Towl probably felt was more than adequate.

Rob Bone (50) and Josh Vernon (65) put on 99 for the third wicket after Towl (41) had opened confidently.

Dan Windsor was the man of the moment for Civil with a rumbustious 128 that took them to 220 for two in reply. Adrian Vickery (29) and Al Stewart (35) shared stands of 148 and 72 respectively with Windsor, who smacked 18 fours and nine sixes.

Matt Trevorrow (21) nudged Civil nearer, which left father and son Stuart and Jack Dent to get the team over the line.

Bone (2-22) was the pick of the Whitchurch bowlers.

LUCAS Grierson cracked 73 not out as D West new leaders Chelston & Kingskerwell raced to an eight-wicket win over visiting Kenn.

The top-against-bottom clash always looked an odds-on home win and all bets were off after Kenn were dismissed for 137.

Joel Kearney and Vivek Kulkarni had three wickets each for C&K. Take out Hugh Stronge’s 61 and Ben Chaloner’s 26 and there was not a lot from the rest.

Grierson and Nick Guest (33) made it easy for the leaders, who are a point clear of Hatherleigh 2ndXI at the top.

Paignton, who were top, did not play as their game at Lewdown was rained off.

SOUTH Devon are up to fourth in the table after punching their way off the ropes to beat Plympton 2ndXI.

Dillip Salinda, who took three wickets on his South Devon debutJames Allen (3-29) and new signing Dillip Salinda (3-31) did most of the damage with the ball as South Devon dismissed Plympton for 184.

Christian Bunney made 25 in a running total of 46 for two and when Steve Raven fell for 30 Plympton were 121 for five.

Craig Miles marked his return after a two-year lay-off with 31 and Chris Dawe weighed in with 24 before Ali Wright (2-32) and Salinda ran through the lower order.

The last four Plympton wickets went for just 10 runs.

South Devon were unspectacular with the bat for long periods as Simon Beare, Adam Sellick (3-2) and Matt Draper (0-23) made run scoring tough.

Opener Wright (29) had the only score of note as South Devon stumbled to 120 for six.

Plympton could not shift seventh-wicket pair Kalen Warne and Richard Beaumont and that ultimately cost them.

Beaumont waited for the bad ball to arrive and dispatched it to make 37 not out off 38 balls in an unbroken stand of 67 with Warne (17no).

IPPLEPEN 2ndXI proved no match for Hatherleigh 2ndXI, who crushed them by 131 runs.

Hatherleigh got to 184 for six in 42 overs before rain stopped play at Station Road.

After a solid if unspectacular start, Simon Weale (71) and Zak Spears (36) took the Hatherleigh score along to 184 for six.

Ipplepen were all out for a paltry 53 in just 18 overs.

Romario Braithwaite (6-10) was entirely responsible for reducing Pens to 27 for six. Tail-ender Harry Lewis made a top score of 15 not out.
