Thompson guns down Brixham with seven for 15 haul

DEFENDING champions Torquay showed Brixham no mercy in the first game of the season – routing the Premier new boys by 10 wickets at the Recreation Ground.

Brixham skipper Andy Pugh won the toss, batted and saw his side dismissed for 60.

Torquay seamer Joe Thompson did the damage with seven wickets for 15 runs – taking the first three as Brixham dipped to three for eight.

Pugh went second ball to a return catch back to the bowler.

Torquay new boy Ben Williams – fresh from playing for Somerset 2nd XI against Sussex, clamed South African dangerman Corné Dry with the score on 12.

Only two batters reached double figures – one of them last man Matt Parsons – as Brixham were dispatched in 27 overs.

Torquay openers Mitch Pugh and Reid Mawdsley had the runs knocked off before the end of the 10th over.

Pugh hit nine boundaries in his 48 off 38 balls while Mawdsley was six not out.

The winning runs were hit at 3.22 to give Torquay their 11th win on the reel.
