Zondo undefeated as Hatherleigh zip along to victory

HATHERLEIGH won the basement clash with Bovey Tracey by six wickets to move away from immediate danger at the wrong end of the Premier table.

Bovey were all out for 174 in the 47t of their 50 overs – Minhaj Jalill making a top score of 39.

Zipo Zondo led the Hatherleigh chase with an unbeaten 86 as the target was chewed up with more than 12 overs to go.

Victory took Hatherleigh two places and 18 points clear of the relegation places.

Bovey have dropped to third from bottom, but still have a 15-point safety margin.

Bovey recovered from 24 for two – Tom Strawbridge taking both wickets - to reach 95 for three with Chris Bradley (33) and Jalill doing the work.

Rob Fishleigh picked up a couple of wickets before Lewis Hammett (28) and Tom Andrew (24) took Bovey’s running total up to 149 for five.

Hammett’s run-out was the beginning of the end for Bovey. Sean Letheren (2-28) and the returning Simon Gillespie (3-23) took the last five wickets for 26 runs combined.

Hatherleigh lost opener Danny Forrester cheaply, but that was as good as it got for Bovey.

Fishleigh (41) and Zondo took the total to 104 for two,, then the South African moved up a gear, scoring 44 of the 72 needed to win.

Ashley Causey (3-47) was Bovey’s leading wicket taker.
