BRIDESTOWE moved to the top of C West with an eight-wicket win over Chagford.

Tom Boother (3-41) got the important wicket of Lammonby in the first over and along with Sam Ewen (3-18) reduced Chagford to 40-5.

Callum Worth (25) was the only top-order batsman to get going.

With a couple of injuries picked up, Bridestowe tried eight bowlers, six of whom picked up a wicket.

Julian Baker (65) and Roger Whittingham (30) swung Chagford to 166 before they were bowled out in the 42nd over.

Bridestowe raced to 55 in their chase through James Ewen (10) and Gary Sizmur (90no) with a few chances going begging.

The former edged behind and Ryan Dennis was bowled early on but 56-2 was as good as it got for Chagford.

Sizmur and Jack Hatton (47no) stroked their way to the target with more than 20 overs remaining.

CORNWOOD II sprung a shock in the C Division West when they defeated deposed leaders Lewdown by 63 runs.

Lewdown were short staffed with players at a stag do for team-mate Dave Ball, whose wedding day is just around the corner.

Cornwood took full advantage by dismissing Lewdown for 112 in reply to their own total of 175 all out.

Jack Richardson top scored for Cornwood with 73 and Ben Collins made 33. Billy Searle (5-28) led Lewdown’s bowling effort.

Jack Brady made 49 for Lewdown but once he went it was downhill all the way.

Andy Bees (4-28) send Lewdown sliding, aided and abetted by Jamie Bailey (3-16).

THE Stanley brothers pressed their claims for 1stXI consideration with runs in Bovey Tracey II’s win over Shaldon.

Callum Stanley top scored on 92 in Bovey’s all-out total of 250 with 13 balls to go.

Along the way there were stands of 42 with Dan Green (34), 72 with brother Reuben Stanley (46) and 86 with Oliver Clifford-Bourne (29).

Callum Stanley, who hit 15 fours and six from 81 balls, and his brother joined Bovey from Ipplepen during the close season. They look like promising acquisitions.

Carl Woolnough (3-40) and Ryan Bougourd (2-29) were the leading Bovey bowlers.

Shaldon chased to the bitter end before they were all out for 233 with more than three overs to go.

Andy Lockyer (46) and Richie Fisher (43) got them up to 128 for five and the chase continued with Tshepo Legodi (21) and Bougourd (20) keeping up the good work.

At 205 for nine with last pair Mark Couch and Ross Abraham in residence, Bovey appeared favourites.

Their last-wicket stand had reached 28 when Green (2-46) snared Couch for 25 to wrap up victory.

Callum Stanley and Clifford-Bourne also had a couple of wickets.

ASHBURTON were made to work hard by lowly Plympton II for a five-wicket win at Harewood House.

Charles O’Higgins (20) and Dom Mulberry (22) got Plympton started, then skipper Jason Degg (40) and Jacob Caunter (35) took them most of the way to 197 for nine.

There were two wickets each George Marshall, Lloyd White and Chris Yeo – and a couple of run outs.

Ashburton skipper Ashley Berry (76) compiled the keystone knock that held the reply together from 18 for one to 155 for four.

Martin Causey (54no) finished the job, aided and abetted at the end by Devon U13 batsman Jake Pascoe (14no).

Said Berry: “We are now finding the sort of performances we know we are capable of.

“Plans are being executed and chances taken.

“Plympton tested us at the back end of their innings, but we were clinical in ours.

“Dom and George did a great job with the ball in the first half to restrict them and it was good to see Marty hit form with the bat and Jake finish the game strongly on debut.”

Bovey Tracey away comes next for Berry and Co.
