Stoke mark 65th anniversary with special game

STOKEINTEIGNHEAD are planning a special game to mark their 65th anniversary later this month.

The club was formed at a meeting in the Church House Inn, Stokeinteignhead in September 1949 and with a sparse fixture list in 1950.

Lustleigh played against Stokeinteignhead early in the 1951 season and have been a regular fixture ever since.

There were some high-profile matches between the teams in the South Devon Cricket League including three play off finals in the late 1990s.

The match will take place on Sunday, May 15 at Stoke’s Netherton Park. Lower Netherton near Newton Abbot.

Ian Lang, the Stokeinteignhead secretary, is trying to arrange for some of the players from the very early days of the fixtures to attend the celebrations.

It is hoped that other former players from both sides can come along to celebrate.
