Topsham St James through to fifth round on T20 cup
TOPSHAM St James are through to the fifth round of the ECB National T20 Cup following a 64-run win over Taunton Deane.
Saints were asked to bat first by the home side and totalled 130 for three – their best score in the tournament so far.
After losing two early wickets, Amelia Sydenham and Caitlin Pilcher began to rebuild the innings then increased the tempo.
A 69-run partnership came to an end with Sydenham (26) fell lbw to Taunton Deane's Harriet Kelly.
Maddy Ross joined Pilcher and she cracked on to a maiden half-century for Topsham, which came off just 61 balls
A combination of attacking stroke play and sharp running between the wickets was the foundation of the Topsham recovery.
Taunton Deane's innings started briskly, with openers Hannah Hughes and Karla Rose finding the boundary easily.
Molly Dart made the crucial breakthrough bowling Rose (9) before Katy Donovan (2-9) chipped in next over to remove the number three quickly.
A middle-order collapse – Taunton Deane lost five wickets for 11 runs scored – put Topsham in control.
Emma Corney (2-10) took the final wicket as Taunton Deans were bowled out for 66.
Topsham St James will play Hursley Park (Hampshire) in the regional final on June 17.
