Palladium U8s Festivals exciting youngsters
The U8s festivals are underway in Plymouth and West Devon, with Plymouth and Cornwood both hosting festivals in the last 2 weeks.
Last season these were run as U9s festivals for local clubs and became very popular amongst young cricketers.
With the influx of children through the All Stars programme and the introduction of U10s teams, it was decided that this season the festivals would be for U8s. Plymouth and West Devon have seen a great rise in the number of U8s getting into cricket, All Stars cricket attracted 212 5-8 years olds in the area last year and this year this has risen to 357 out of the 1,400 in the county.
The festivals are held on Sundays and the matches are played using an adapted kwik cricket format, giving many their first experience of kwik cricket.
Plymouth, who have over 40 All Stars, hosted Tideford and Ivybridge at Mount Wise with 4 teams having a great time experiencing their first cricket matches.
Cornwood welcomed Ivybridge, Plymouth and Plymstock to Oak Park for an 8 team festival which proved a big success. 50+ children took part in 6 a-side matches, getting the chance to put their newly aquirred cricket skills to the test.
The next U8s festival is at Lewdown CC, on Sunday 10th June, 10am-1pm. If you are intersted in entering a team then please contact Alex Jopling - email@example.com.
