Paignton bring in county youngsters Sam Woodcock and Luke Medlock for top-of-table-clash with Cornwood

Rob Shergold – missing from Paignton

TOP two Cornwood and Paignton meet at Oak Park in the A Division’s match of the day.

With only two points between the table-topping Corns and second-placed Paignton, it could not be much closer.

Craig Harris replaces Aaron Richards in Cornwood’s only significant change.

Paignton are denuded of all-rounders Rob Shergold and Chris Kelmere, which means calls for spinner Sam Woodcock and Devon U17 squadman Luke Medlock.

Richard Ashworth, the Paignton skipper, said: Confidence is high after four from four but still areas to improve on. Expecting a tough game this weekend.”

Torquay, who lost their unbeaten record when Paignton took it off them last time out, are away to Chudleigh.

Devon U17 paceman Sonny Baker, son of Torquay’s veteran seamer Ian Baker, comes into the side for his 1st XI debut.

Chudleigh, bottom of the table, need a result after only winning once in four starts.

“I'm looking for a response this week after a couple of poor results,” said skipper Matt Heather.

“We are under no illusion that Saturday’s game against Torquay will be anything other than difficult.

“But, with a little less pressure on, hopefully we will be able to play with a bit more freedom and self-belief in order to get a positive result.”

Will Heather is back in after a couple of weeks out and replaces Jamie Farrow.

Bideford skipper Paul Heard will want his side to maintain the standards set in the 133-run win at Ivybridge when they visit Budleigh Salterton.

Bideford’s top five batters all made sizeable contributions to a total of 243 for five.

Then an all-round effort from the bowling attack had Ivybridge back in the hutch for an unimpressive 110.

“Going to Budleigh is never easy, but as long as we carry on our high fielding and bowling standards and batsmen keep on contributing I'm confident,” said Heard.

“We will have a couple of changes as Tom Brend and Martin Stewart are unavailable, but who will come in will depend on the balance of the side.”

Brixham skipper Mark Orchard wants to build on last Saturday’s win over Ivybridge and climb further away from the drop spots.

Said Orchard: “To carry on from last week's win we need gto doing the simple things and enjoying it.”
Mike Barron comes back into the side after two weeks away to offer another all-rounder option.

Plympton make two changes of personnel for the derby date with Ivybridge.

Lee Ahmed is unavailable so in comes David Wrench. Rob Walker drops back into the 2nd XI so in comes Jack Horton.

Plympton won after a struggle against Budleigh last Saturday to stay  a respectable distance from the relegation places.

“We found a way to get ourselves over the line and as a side compared to last year more and more people are putting their hand up and putting in a performance,” said Plympton captain Craig Donohue.
Elliot Hamilton played superbly with the bat and showed maturity well above 15 years of age.

And Ben Privett at 14 played a really good hand in building a partnership to give us a total to defend. It was great to see.
“Ivybridge will be a tough game, however we go there full of confidence.”

For Ivybridge, young batsman Harvey Johnson comes in for his 1st XI debut and Kelvin Trent is back in the team after a stint in the 2nd XI.
