Green pulls out of Devon squad to give niggling injuries a rest

Rested - Ben Green

FORMER England U19 all-rounder Ben Green has pulled out of Devon’s XII for Sunday's game against Wiltshire at Sidmouth (11am) in the slimmed down Unicorns KO Cup.

Green, dual registered with Somerset, was one of the in-form players in the squad, having scored a league ton for Exeter AND taken four wickets in last Saturday’s win over Bovey Tracey.

“Ben’s got a few niggles and with a long season ahead of him for Somerset has decided it is best to manage his game time,” said Devon team chief Keith Donohue.

“We have decided not to bring anyone else into the squad and will go with the XI left.

“That means a chance for Joe Hagan-Burt, a young cricketer with lots of promise who has had good start to the season.”

Hagan-Burt, whose game has improved during a winter spent at the Darren Lehmann Academy in Australia, is a seam-bowling option for captain Josh Bess.

One option no longer has is calling on multi-faceted all-rounder Matt Golding, who will be living and working in Australia for the next two years.

Golding, 24 played 52 games in all competitions for Devon from his debut in 2012. His ability to bowl seamers and spin as well as bat in the top order made him a must-pic for ever captain he played under.
