DOM Bess clouted his maiden First Class century on day two of the game between MCC and Essex in Barbados.

Somerset’s off-spinning all-rounder, who learned his cricket at Blundell’s School and in the Devon youth teams, scored 107 off 166 balls in a hefty eighth-wicket stand of 172.

Bess, the only Somerset player in the select team facing the champion county, hit 18 boundaries his stand with fellow centurion Sam Hain (140no) to lift the MCC score to 408 for eight.

Earlier, Bess took two for 57 as Essex were dismissed for 187. They were 26 for one at stumps on day two of the annual four-day 2018 curtain-raiser game.
