EXMOUTH have started squad building for 2018 by making their first close-season signings.

Batting all-rounder Andy Buzza is returning to the Maer after a season and a half with Bradninch.

Buzza almost returned last season, but found the transfer deadline and been and gone.

Signing number two is Ben Twine, a bowling all-rounder who has been on the Sussex Academy.

Twine is studying at the University of Exeter and wanted to find a nearby club.

He has played through the age groups for Sussex from U13 level up to the Second XI.

Richard Baggs, who will continue as captain in 2018, said squad strengthening was crucial to turn his side into Premier Division title challengers.

“We finished 79 points behind champions Bovey Tracey this season – and that’s not acceptable,” said Baggs.

“Well played Bovey Tracey, but we could and should have run them much closer.

“The signings we have made will help us become more competitive in 2018.

“Andy Buzza comes back to us from Bradninch a more rounded, better developed player. As an Exmouth lad it really is ‘welcome home’ as far as he is concerned.

“Ben Twine is a quality player with a strong pedigree in county and Premier League cricket in Sussex. He adds a bowling option and is useful with the bat in the middle order.”

Baggs is talking to other players with a view to announcing more signings in the next few weeks.
