Record-breaker White has indelible place in Devon League history now + all the new from week 18 in the C Division West

Lloyd White - first player in Devon League history to score two double hundreds

ASHBURTON’S Lloyd White wrote an indelible place in the Devon League record boos when he smashed 212 in a 397-run win over Plymouth CS&R.

Ashburton rocketed along to 515 for six in 45 overs, breaking records as they went.

White’s 212 is a record for the C Division West, comfortably exceeding Nathan Hicks’ 185 for Stoke Gabriel against Chelston & Kingskerswell last season.

White is also the only player in Devon League history to make two double hundreds in a career. His first was scored against South Devon 2nd XI for Budleigh Salterton in 2010.

Ashburton’s total of 515 for six is a record for any division in the Devon League. Halberton & Sampford Peverell held the old record with 494 for seven against Cullompton in 2007.

The stand of 253 for the third wicket with Tristan Wakefield was a new record for any of the C Divisions – pre or post regionalisation. Chris Ford and Richard Pyle of Shobrooke Park set the previous one of 211 against Yealmpton in 1994.

For the record, White hit 24 fours and 12 sixes during his time in the middle.

Civil Service, who only had 10 men, were all out for 118 in reply.

CHAMPIONS Babbacombe ended their promotion-winning campaign with a 109-run victory over Chagford.

Steve Lewis plundered 121 and co-opener Jacob Hand made 86 in stand of 181 to get Babbacombe up and running.

Andy Kingdon – 47 not out off 41 balls – helped the final score along to 292 for three.

Seven bowlers had a go, none doing better than Jake Griffiths (2-46).

Jean-Pierre van Rensburg slammed 113 off 99 balls – 17 fours, three sixes – to get Chagford up to 148 for four.

Once van Rensbury went to Damon Calland (5-42) it was downhill all the way for Chagford to 183 all out. Dean Peall took three for 33.

SHALDON Optimists held on to their C Division status by a whisker thanks to a seven-wicket win over Bridestowe.

Shaldon were in trouble if they lost and South Devon or Stoke Gabriel won, or South Devon got two more points from them if both won and Stoke Gabriel lost.

Stoke Gabriel came a cropper at Dartington & Totnes, that was them down, but South Devon defeated Kingsbridge and earned a full 20 points.

As Shaldon took all 20 they stayed up and sent South Devon down for the second year in a row.

Bridestowe’s innings was an up-and-down affair to 161 all out – Dan Fogerty making a top score of 32 going in at number nine. Ian Jutson (25) chipped in.

Kelsey Fahey (5-33) was the man of the moment with the ball for Shaldon.

Shaldon had no real pressure in them chasing as they could afford to lose eight wickets as long as they got the runs.

Steve Arkell (54no) and Fahey (37no) tied up the lose ends by putting on 71 unbroken to win the game.

SOUTH Devon couldn’t do any more than they did other than beat Kingsbridge by seven wickets – and even that wasn’t enough to stave off the drop.

James Westlake (37) and Matt Grose (25) were the leading run makers for Kingsbridge in a tally of 156 all out.

Joe Kitto took three wickets for 29 runs and there were doubles for Dinesh Raheja, Jonty Parsons and James Allen.

Allen, one of South Devon’s few success stories on their way down, made 52 at the top of the order and put on 77 for the second wicket with Raheja (60no) to set up victory.

Ali Wright (26no) joined skipper Raheja to knock off the last 50.

STOKE Gabriel dropped into the bottom three on the last day of the season after losing by four wickets to Dartington & Totnes.

Tyler Walton (4-35) did much of the damage as Stoke were dismissed for 125 – Issac Withington (26) top scoring.

Harry Baxendale (51no) and Bertus Loots (24) negotiated the odd banana skin thrown down by Sean Dwyer (3-23) to see D&T over the line.
