Relegation issues still need settling in A and B Divisions

Matt Theedom - back from his JOGLE to play for Sandford against Plymstock

IT’S all over bar the shouting in at the top of the A Division where the one-two of Sandford and Hatherleigh can’t change in the final round of games.

Sandford wind up the season away to relegated Plymstock. They will be without batter Chris Jelly, who has been suspended for two games by the league for showing dissent to an umpire.

Matt Theedom returns having been on a charity bike ride last Saturday when the team clinched the title against Ivybridge.

Hatherleigh have a derby date with Lewdown, who are heading for a mid-table finish.

Plymstock are already down and one of Brixham  (145pts) or Ivybridge (160) will be going with them.

Brixham have to win and keep Ivybridge to four points or fewer to be sure of staying up.

THE B Division title race goes down to the final round of games with leaders Abbotskerswell (263pts) and Bideford (262) neck and neck.

Abbotskerswell make the short hop through the rural lanes to Ipplepen for their final game.

Bideford are at home to Barton, who are in last-day jeopardy of going down.

While it is all cut and dried at the top, one of Seaton (201pts), Barton (187) or Thorverton (184) will be dropping down with Ottery St Mary.

Thorverton’s defeat by Barton last Saturday cost them the chance of getting out of the bottom two.

Andy Pitt, the Thorverton captain, accepts survival is out of his side’s direct control now.

“All we can do is win against Filleigh and hopefully Bideford do us a favour against Barton,” said Pitt.

“I know a lot of the guys were very disappointed with how we played against Barton so will be really keen to get the result we want this weekend.”
