Geoff Evans Memorial Scorebox ready for switch-on at County Ground

THE new scorebox on the County Ground will be officially switched on prior to the game between Devon and Berkshire.

The fully digital box, remotely controlled from the scorers’ office in the pavilion, is a permanent memorial to former Devon and Exeter crickete Geoff Evans, who died last year.

Geoff EvansEvans played for Exeter from 1953 until 1983 – a brief sojourn with Exmouth aside – and was Exeter treasurer from 1965-69 and secretary between 1970-1977.

He played for Devon from 1972-1980 and was a member of the team who won the Minor Counties title in 1978. The deciding game was against Durham on the County Ground.

Evans became Devon CCC’s assistant secretary in 1982 and over the next 34 years was secretary (86-2012) and latterly chairman. He also found time to serve as secretary of  the Minor Counties Cricket Association.

The scorebox has been donated by the Evans family. Sons Greg – the chairman of Budleigh Salterton – and Matt will perform the switching on around 15 minutes before the game starts at 11am on Sunday morning.

Stephen Green, the Exeter secretary, said there is an open invitation to all friends of Geoff's to attend.
