E Division East leaders Kenn overpower Whitchurch by nine wickets

Kenn opener Martin Swannell - 59-run opening stand

TABLE-topping Kenn didn’t need long to wrap up a nine-wicket win over Whitchurch Wayfarers.

Richard Potts (34) and Nigel Barriball (21) had the only scores of note as Wayfarers were bowled out for 115 by James Mason (5-9) and Ollie Thomas (2-30).

Ben Chaloner (66no) and Martin Swanell (13) wiped 59 off the target. James Gosling (35no) was there at end, which came in the 19th over.

Kenn are 26 points clear at the top from Yelverton, who overturned out-of-sorts Chelston & Kingskerswell by 174 runs.

Openers Dan Cooper (104) and Geoff Brain (77) took the C&K attack for 184. Christian van Niekerk (42) chipped in to the total of 292 for six.

Chelston & Kingskerswell were without Mark Faulkner in their early order – and he was clearly missed as they slunk to 118 all out. Vivek Kulkarni (25) and Mike Etherington (26) had the only respectable scores.

South African van Niekerk picked up four for 15 from 8.3 overs.

Faulkner, who had to work on Saturday morning and could not travel , assisted the 2nd XI in their game against Ipplepen. He smote 172 yet ended on the losing side as Pens chased 263 to win and got them with three overs to spare.

Exwick won the battle of the cellar dwellers when they beat St Marychurch Obs by nine wickets.

Steve Davies made a top score of 48 opening up for St Marychurch in their total of 103 for five. Lewis Cox and Jeremy Richardson had two wickets each.

Howard Rose (33) and Kris Calderhead (65) took Exwick within sight of victory. Ran Grunsell (4no) finished it off.
