C Division West news + Ansley slams 40-ball ton for Stoke Gabriel

Lloyd White hits out for Ashburton in their win over Chagford

STOKE Gabriel’s winning run continued when they triumphed by 86 runs at Plymouth CS&R

Seb Ansley smacked one of the quickest tons in Devon League history – 106 off 43 balls – in Stoke’s total of 314 for six.

Skipper Mike Meach was the only top six batter to miss out as everyone else round him clocked up the runs.

Dan Pandolfo (47) and Dan Bullock (43) opened up with 86 then Issac Withington (45) and Bullock added 47 more.

After Meach came and went for a couple, and Withington went at 171, Civil may have thought the charge was slowing.

Ansley and Tim Withington had other ideas. Their stand of 114 took Stoke to 285 for five.

Timber! Ashburton's Ashley Harvey hears the stumps rattleWhen Andy Hawker bowled Ansley, the Stoke batter had clouted 11 sixes and six fours.

Civil had a centurion of their own in skipper Dan Winsor, whose 127 off 97 balls was impressive in its own right.

What Windsor didn’t have was the back up Ansley enjoyed as the next best after him was tail ender Jarod Harvey (22).

Jake Robinson led the wicket-taking effort for Stoke with five for 50. Sean Dwyer bagged a brace.

Stoke Gabriel are now out of the relegation places and looking to push further up the table when they host second-bottom Shaldon this Saturday.

WILL Coon had Chagford in a spin as Ashburton sent them tumbling to a 56-run defeat.

Ashburton were bowled out for 173 with 11 balls to go – tail-ender Dom Durman helping overcome a middle-order collapse.

Ashes started well – Lloyd White (24) and Dan Coles (29) opening up – but got bogged down and lurched from 61 for two to 100 for six.

Duncan Manners-Chapman (3-27) and Jacob Griffiths (2-46) did most of the damage.

Martin Causey (17) hung around with Durman to add 29 for the ninth wicket. Useful runs.

Last man Coon (4no) kept his end intact while Durman made his way to 35 at the other end in a stand of 23.

“Dom’s innings was the real match changer as it gave us a target to bowl at,” said Ashburton captain Ashley Berry.

Chagford were later to regret letting the Ashes last two wickets put on 55.

Tom Durman bowled Chagford opener Callum Worth in the second over to make it interesting.

Surviving opener Craig Penberthy notched 31 in a running total of 71 for four, but after he went wickets fell regularly.

Coon had four for 18 from nine overs, which left odds and sods shared round.

“The dusty wicket was ideal for Will and he utilised it perfectly,” said Berry.

“We showed a bit of guts as we didn’t play near our best and still came away with the win.

“That said, it's vital that we sharpen up if we want to continue towards the top of the table.”

KINGSBRIDGE held on under pressure to beat Shaldon by eight runs in a nail-biter.

Matt Grose and Elliot Bradbury both hit half centuries in Kingsbridge’s total of 227 for nine.

Opener James Westlake (37) and Freddie Ford (17) got the score up to 63 for two then Grose (51) got going, posting 68 with Ashley Treeby (18) and 46 with Bradbury.

Bradbury batted through the rest of the innings for an unbeaten 55.

Paceman Tshepo Legodi (4-47) led Shaldon’s bowling effort, aided and abetted by Kelsey Fahey (3-39).

Shaldon were 52 for none thanks to openers Andy Espley and Karl Blackburn (41), then dipped to 52 for three.

Joe Wilcox (23) and Fahey (40) got the chase restarted and a liberal selection of extras (40 in total) helped.

Bhanu deSilva (5-22) worked his way through the Shaldon middle and lower order, which proved their undoing.

Although they had overs in hand wickets were falling too often.

The turning point was the demise of Carl Woolnough, who was eighth out for 26 with the score on 201.

Spinner de Silva was a bit too wily for the tail-enders, who didn’t last long.

BABBACOMBE stay out in front of Ashburton at the top of the table after cruising to a six-wicket win at South Devon.

South Devon recovered from a nightmare start – they were eight for two – to make 184 for seven.

Dinesh Raheja (36) and skipper Ali Wright (33) put on 77 for the third wicket with Raheja going on to 126 for four.

The bulk of the remaining runs were scored by Richard Beaumont, who hit nine fours on his way to 66 not out from 73 balls.

Sam Powell (3-38) shaded Dean Peall (2-38) in the Babbacombe bowling figures. Paul Bates – none for 29 – was hard to get away.

Babbacombe had the total wiped off inside 30 overs, Steve Lewis (48) getting the pursuit off to a bright start.

Andy Kingdon (45no) went in at 86 for two after Lewis went and with Steve Broad (12) and Dean Peall (32no) chalked off the tally with the minimum of fuss.

Babbacombe are 17 points clear of Ashburtion, who beat Chagford by 56 runs.

South Devon, winless in five games since beating Ashburton in early June, are hovering one place and four points over the drop zone.

Babbacombe host Plymouth CSR on Saturday. South Devon go to Bridestowe.

DARTINGTON lost by 26 runs to visiting Bridestowe, which leaves them in the C West bottom two.

Bridestowe struggled early on with Matt Hickey (1-54) and James Howrihane (3-26) bowling some good deliveries.

After the loss of both openers, Rhys Palmer (19) and Sam Ewen (21) steadied the ship untill both fell to Howrihane.

Bridestowe collapsed from 100 for four to 107 for eight with rash shots and some good fielding from D&T leaving the visitors in trouble.

Spinners Bertus Loots (2-32) and Tyler Walton (2-18) picked wickets, and could have had more but for a couple of dropped catches.

Bridestowe skipper Dan Fogerty (34no) dug his team out of a hole with Alex Jopling (10) and Tom Boother (14) supporting well.

Bridestowe finished on 173 all out, helped by 41 extras from D&T.

D&T also had a shaky start  as Elliot Miller was caught by Sam Ewen at short cover off Gary Sizmur (2-21) and Sam Ewen (1-30) trapped the dangerous Hickey in front.

Chris Cook (26),  Loots (19) and Howrihane (22) all got starts, but none of them were able to go on to make a match winning score.

Jopling (1-16), Ryan Dennis (2-14) and Tom McGrattan (1-18) picked up wickets to keep Bridestowe ahead of the game.

Number ten Alex Winch (15) was the last man out in the final over with the score on 147.
