Local rivals meet in Aaron Printers Cup final on Thursday night

Flashback! Will Gornall with the Aaron Printers Man of the Match trophy after the 2014 final

IPPLEPEN and Abbotskerswell clash at South Devon CC tomorrow (Thursday) night in the final of the Aaron Printers Cup.

Ipplepen last won the cup back in 2013 when they defeated Dartington & Totnes in the final.

To reach this season’s final the Pens beat Paignton by 13 runs in a low-scoring semi-final at Abbotskerswell.

Joe Abbott made a top score of 28 for Pens, who were all out for 93 with one ball left of their 20 overs.

Luke Medlock (3-15) and Mark Smith (3-20) led the bowling effort for Paignton, who must have fancied their chances of returning to the final for the first time since 2006.

It didn’t happen, Limited overs expert Will Gornall – a man of the match winner for Dartington & Totnes in the 2014 final – took four for 12 from four overs as Paignton were skittled out for 80

Joel Ashworth (29) and Tim Ward (16) had the only double-figure scores.

Abbots path to the final, their first since beating Bovey Tracey in 2009, was a nine-wicket win over Babbacombe.

Babbacombe made 153, which Abbots comfortably knocked off led by James Fulner (74no) and Thomas Keily (53no).

The good news for Ipplepen is that Keily isn’t available for the final as he is on holiday with 1st XI captain Charlie Hill and a few other friends from the club.

Start time at Marsh Road, Newton Abbot is 6pm. The man of the match adjudicator is Paignton’s Tim Ward.
