Seaton exceeding own expectations on return to B Division

Matt Hewer - in the runs again for Seaton

SEATON skipper Ben Morgan said his team are exceeding their own expectations back in the B Division this season.

It’s 10 seasons since Seaton were last in the B Division so for almost all the team it is uncharted territory.

The season started slowly, but four wins on the trot have turned things round.

Said Morgan: “To reach half way with our wins in a row, five wins in total and only two defeats is a brilliant start.

“Had anyone offered me that at the start of May I would gladly have taken it.

“We are winning games by playing good cricket – long may that continue.”

Last time out Seaton defeated ailing Ottery St Mary by 68 runs.

Matt Hewer laid the platform for Seaton to make 213 for seven in their 45 overs with a sold 59 off 81 balls.

Hewer was second out on 99 during a period when Ottery’s bowlers got on top.

Three wickets went reaching 107 for four – Jody Clements (2-35) and Rob Crabb (2-36) getting involved.

Josh Cann (47) and Morgan (24) hoisted 65 for the fifth wicket before both fell to Joe Birch (2-56) in the dash for runs at the end.

Ottery were all out for 145 – more than they looked like making after collapsing from 65 for two to 90 for seven.

Dan Flower opened with 30, but no one else made a significant score until Henry Mutter (36) arrived at 88 for six. By then the damage had largely been done by Joel Seward (2-24) and Tim Mitchell (5-28).
