Sun Shines for Under 9's at West Devon Festival
One of the series of the Palladium Youth Cricket League's U9's Festivals was held at Yelverton Bohemians CC on Sunday 2nd July.
U9 Teams from Bridestowe & Lewdown CC, Buckland Monachorum CC, Cornwood CC, Ivybridge CC, Plymstock CC , Plympton CC & Tavistock CC;s were welcomed to a lovely sunny morning at host club Yelverton Bohemians CC's Langton Park ground.
All of the 8 teams taking part were made up of players Under 9, with some as young as 5 or 6 playing their first ever Kwik-Cricket games following the launch of the ECB All-Stars Programme earlier this Summer. The teams were split into 2 Groups for 2 initial games followed by play-off games to decide the individual group placings.
After the conclusion of all the games, Cornwood CC were the winners of Group 1, narrowly defeating runners-up Tavistock CC by 4 runs. In Group 2, the play-off game was a similarly close affair with Plympton CC defeating Bridestowe & Lewdown CC by the slimest of margins - 2 runs to win the group. Alex Jopling - DCB Community Cricket Coach (Plymouth & West Devon) was on hand to present certificates to all the teams who took part.
A big thank you to all the players, parents, helpers & volunteers who made the day such a success. The next West Devon U9's Festival will be held at Buckland Monachorum CC on Sunday 16th July.
