Craig Overton confirmed as playing in Hildreth testimonial game at South Devon CC tonight

CRAIG Overton is the headline name in the Somerset side for tonight’s (Tuesday’s) James Hildreth Testimonial game at South Devon CC in Newton Abbot.

He may be just 48 hours away from making his full England debut in the T20 international against South Africa at Taunton, but Overton was keen to support his team-mate’s match.

England bosses gave Overton the thumbs up and he will be getting some T20 practice in tonight at South Devon’s expense!

Ashes winner Marcus Trescothick, skipper Tom Abell and Hildreth are in the Somerset team.

Also picked are England U19 duo Ben Greena and George Bartlett, former England U19 keeper-batter Ryan Davies and Eddie Byrom, Somerset’s highly rated Zimbabwean batsman.

South Devon are putting out their regular first team, bolstered by Torquay United manager Kevin Nicholson.

Start time is 5.30pm. Gates open mid-afternoon.

Guest of honour at the match is Tony Sutton who, aged 96, is the oldest living former Somerset player. He played for the county in 1948.

Sutton, who later played for South Devon from the early 50s to the early 70s, wll be introduced to the teams before the game and supervise the toss-up between the captains.
