Knight hundred seals eight-wicket win for England over Sri Lanka

Ton-up - Devon

A hundred from Devon women's graduate Heather Knight added to half-centuries from Sarah Taylor and Danni Wyatt to see England to an eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at Chesterfield in their first official warm-up game ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Sri Lanka won the toss and batted first, but despite a 50-run stand for the fifth wicket they struggled to put an imposing total on the board. They were bowled out for 155 but with both sides agreeing to bat their full allocation of overs they carried on to reach 165.

Tammy Beaumont and Lauren Winfield put on 66 for the first wicket but it was England’s partnership for the third wicket, between captain Knight and wicketkeeper Taylor, that most impressed. England completed the chase in the 31st over to win by eight wickets but they too carried on to complete their 50 overs.

Taylor fell 16 runs short of three figures but Knight reached her landmark to warm applause from the Chesterfield crowd. England’s middle order used their additional time in the middle to carry the attack to Sri Lanka and the hosts closed on an imposing 348-5.
